WHY?

Do you ever feel as though a tidal wave begins about October, sweeps you up, bumps you around a bit, then tosses you out about the first of January, exhausted?

Your head is spinning, your bank account reeling, and you’re not even sure what present you gave who, or if someone was left out after all the chaos of wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows flying.

Christmas is meant to be a time to treasure.

One full of fond memories, good food, wonderful times, and long-held traditions of celebrations with family and friends.

Yet, oftentimes we forget the real reason for this magnificent season—-it is to rejoice in our Savior’s birth and to learn more about Him. A time to focus on how to be more like Jesus.

How can we make this Christmas season joyful, life-changing, and more Christ-centered?

By participating in #LightTheWorld!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

About this time each year, The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints provides many fabulous ways to serve, learn and grow through the month of December.

In past years there has been a calendar for the month provided with a set prompt for each day.  However, this year, there is a list of 50 prompts to choose from during December 1-25 that works best for you.

To help you enjoy this and get your family and friends involved, I have THREE exciting ways to incorporate acts of service and kindness during the month of December with ALL ages.

***I want to note here, that the idea is to find ways to serve others and do acts of kindness.  If something on the calendar, or my games do not work for your family or situation, substitute for something that does!

MAKE IT FUN!

1- Let’s start with the younger ones.

I created for you a FUN paper chain for the littles to create as they Light The World with their light.  They choose a prompt and when it’s completed, they can attach that paper chain to the Star, and see how many chains they can attach!

  • After you download the pages, I recommend that you paste the star to cardstock for more stability.
  • Cut out along the dotted lines around the Star and the dotted line inside the star.

  • You can have the child write, draw (or help them) their name on the Star.
  • The first chain is looped through the line you cut through the Star.
  • Each chain is looped through the other to make a long paper chain.
  • It’s free and can be downloaded HERE

2- A free printable BINGO game for kids will make it extra fun as they mark off ways they are sharing their light.  Challenge them to score a Bingo.  Then maybe another and another – all on the same Bingo sheet.  If they are doing well with it, they might want to do it all for a Black-out!  Get it HERE.

3- And, a printable BINGO game that has all 50 prompts split between the 25 days, so there is a choice between two suggestions every day.  It can be downloaded for free HERE.
