Old Fashioned Game of Kick The Can

Get out and play a game of Kick The Can

Do you ever just want to kick something and get away with it?

Well, you CAN!

Come play Old Fashioned Game of Kick The Can

This game goes way back and is a favorite for all ages to play.

Leave the technology gaming inside and get everyone outside for this fun variation of Hide And Seek.

Kick The Can has been played for generations.

It’s a favorite because it’s a game of skill, stealthiness, some luck and all-around entertaining.

Get everyone out and play in the day OR night, it’s all GREAT!

How to play Kick The Can

To Prepare:
1- You need a bucket or can, one that is able to take a good kicking

2- There needs to be at least 3 kids, the more the better.

3- Designate a ‘JAIL’ area within site of the can.

To Start:
1- An ‘It’ is chosen by counting off to 20, or more, depending on the age of the players.  The goal is to make the game fun!

2- ‘It’ covers his/her eyes and counts OUT LOUD giving enough time for all players to hide. For children it won’t take as much time as for teens and adults.

  • The ‘count’ must be in seconds, such as:   1 – 100,  2-100,  3-100 and so on.

3- While the counting begins, the players hide.

4- When the counting STOPS the players try to make their way in and KICK THE CAN without being tagged.   If a player is tagged they are sent to ‘JAIL’

5- The game continues until all the players are captured.

A  new ‘IT’ is chosen and the game continues as long as players want to keep it going.

GREAT game for kids, teens and adults!

Optional for older players:  If another player KICKS THE CAN all players in JAIL are now set free.

  • Most definitely played kick the can as a kid and this brought me back and then some. The girls haven’t tried this one yet, but maybe this summer we can. So, thanks for the reminder about this awesome outdoor game 😉

Boy, the days when kids were just kids need to come back. So much fun with little paraphernalia!

  • Thanks for bringing back a memory. As kids we played kick ball by day, but once it started getting dark it was time for kick the can. What great times we had, kids these days are missing out on creating some awesome memories. Followed you here from the Let’s Get Real party.l

I have never play kick the can. I have heard of it. My mother in law said she played it when she was growing up. Thanks for sharing! It looks like a lot of fun.
    Blessings,

Don’t you just love when the simplest things turn out to be the biggest hit? 🙂

Okay – I LOVE THIS! You are my pic for feature from last week’s JUST GET REAL Link up! I think basic games and activities are such a lost art and I recently began getting the kids out to do “the things I used to do as a kid”. This is on the list for Sunday!
