Do your kids or grandkids enjoy playing with slime?

How about you?

I love crafting with my grandkids and encouraging them to explore and create.

However, I’m not a fan of the sticky, gooey slime that clings to everything.

Some of my grandkids also dislike the tacky kind that sticks to anything it touches.

This led me on a search for an alternative solution since they still wanted some type of slime to play with.

I’m always looking to find activities that promote off-screen imaginative playtime for them.

Why Choose This Slime?

This Butter Slime is soft, moldable, stretchy, and non-sticky. Its fluffy and incredibly smooth buttery texture makes it easy to shape and bend without oozing like other slimes.

Enjoy hours of mess-free fun with this slime. You can even enhance it by adding glitter and beads for extra creativity.

It’s simple enough to make with younger kids or independently by older ones, making it a great science experiment too!

Here’s what I do:

I use a bowl, measuring cups, and measuring spoons for these activities that I bought at the Dollar Store.

I found a sturdy rubber spatula at Walmart for around $1.00.

Keeping the equipment with the ingredients makes it super easy to create Butter Slime anytime with quick cleanup.

INGREDIENTS:

White Glue – Elmers white school glue like THIS works best

Shaving Cream – Walmart Equate brand or Barbasol works best

Contact Saline Solution – Walmart Equate brand of contact saline solution, orRe’Nu Brand whichever brand you use, it must have boric acid and sodium borate listed in the ingredients for this Butter Slime to work.

Crayola Model Magic Air Dry Clay – I get mine at the Dollar Store in the colors available.  THIS package would be great.  Notice it is a 4 oz. package.  The recipe calls for 2 oz.  You can double the batch and use all 4 oz.   Or cut the amount in half, use one half for the recipe given and store the remaining clay in a sealed baggie or container.  It will last for a few months without drying out.

You will also need water and baking soda.

Let’s get started:

In a bowl mix together –

1/2  cup White Glue

1/4  cup Water

1/4  tsp. Baking Soda

1/3  cup Shaving Cream (this is how I measure the shaving cream, a bit generously)

Combine the glue, water, shaving cream and baking soda in a bowl.

Begin with 1  1/2 Tablespoons contact saline solution and mix together well.

Break the modeling clay into pieces and add in 2 oz of the clay to the mixture.

The kids love helping with this part.

Mix together.

You can see the texture it begins with here.

Pour the Butter Slime out onto the table or a tray as you can see I do.

Now with your hands (you can wear gloves if you prefer) begin to knead the Butter Slime.

Keep kneading and if it’s too sticky add in a little of the remaining contact saline solutionm a little at a time.

The slime should be soft and moldable, and easily removed from hands.

The Butter Slime will hold some shape and then flatten out as it sits; that’s how it should be.

Contine kneading until the Butter Slime is soft.

If too much saline solution is added, the Butter Slime will become hard and not moldable.  If this happens simply add in a small amount of water and knead.  Continue adding water if necessary to soften the Butter Slime. Not to the point of sticy, but soft and pliable.

If the Butter Slime is very sticky, simply add in a little bit more saline solution at a time, knead and continue until the Butter Slime is smooth and easy to work with.

I split the Butter Slime between two younger grandkids on trays like THESE.    These trays are fabulous and we use them all of the time for many activities and crafts.

Put out plastic charachters, beads, gems and anything plastic works really well as it will not stick to the Butter Slime.

After play, the plasic toys come out clean.

The kids and grandkids will love this Butter Slime because it’s so soft and easy to mold.

And you will love this Butter Slime because it’s very easy to clean up.

After play, store in a tight sealing bag or container.  We keep ours a day or two.  It will lose it’s elasticity over time, but still fun to play with.

Enjoy!!!
